If you have any problem, personal or professional, you can easily get rid of them. Just go to Baba Bangali, who would make your worries, problems and tensions vanish in 24 hours, that’s guaranteed. And worry not, they wouldn’t charge you much, just a few thousand rupees-starting from Rs.551 to Rs.51000. Depends on the nature of the problem. Well if you don’t believe them, you’ve plenty more options to choose from.
Now-a-days there are special advertisements (no less than a full episode) on TV channels which run into several minutes. These ads are all about your “well-being”. To save you from Jadoo-Tona, Buri-nazar and Bbigdi-Kisamt. Scores of TV actors vouch for these godly Taveez and Shani Suraksha Kavach etc. in various such advertisements. Of course they are well-paid for their acting.
Imagine you are watching your favourite serial in the afternoon, it ends and the next thing you see on the screen is a frail, extremely dejected and depressed man. The man starts wailing over his misery. You also feel sorry for him. Then another man appears who is very happy, handsome and a successful businessman. This man tells the sad man that he too was like him a few weeks ago, sad and depressed after suffering huge losses in business, but then fortunately somebody told him about the Chamatkari Rudraksh. The successful man advises the sad man to buy one if he wants to overcome his problems and become successful just like him. The sad man buys one and in the end we see the same sad creature, cheerful, jubilant and attributing his success and return of good-days to the Chamatkari Rudraksh. Wow.
Then flashes a toll-free number and price of the Chamatkari Rudraksh with a tempting offer of getting a Laal Mani for free if you order right away. The Laal Mani would be effective in protecting your house from the vicious “ill-vibes”.
You will be saved from whatever bad may be happening to you; loss in business, no-job, court case, promotion, marriage, love, disease, any damn problem you are facing, just order this divine Mantra Stone and see the change. And what more it will cost you “only” Rs.2499, and if you order it right now you would get one extra for your family member. Who says Chmatkars have ceased to happen in this world!
Please don’t think that I am a salesman. Whatever is written above is something that really irritates me as well. In the last two years there has been a sudden surge in these advertisements and the way there numbers are increasing suggests people are buying these “products” to get rid of their mundane worries.
The timing of these advertisements is worth considering. Mostly they are aired in the afternoon on many popular Hindi TV channels. Before the ads, comes a declaration that the channel is not responsible for the content and products sold or endorsed in the ads. This declaration usually, like others, is in English and for a very short time.
Give a thought to their target customer: Housewives. In the last one decade sale of colour TV and cable/dish network has increased manifold in our country, especially in urban areas. We don’t see many households without a colour tv. Television is as essential as food for many of us. The economic boom, increased competition, resulting in better products for lower rates has made these items affordable for most lower-income families as well.
As you would agree, many of us still believe very much in superstitions and especially when faced with tough times, we find such fast and apparently result oriented Talismans much more viable than logical thinking. In such desperate times or to make more “fast progress” as promised by those canny actors/presenters, many of us are lured into buying these things.
One fine day, I decided to try it. Being jobless for many days I phoned one of these “happiness-selling” enterprises and asked if they would give me any guarantee or warranty that I would get a job after buying their “product”? I didn’t get any reply, the call had been disconnected.
